Background
In the early years following Belgium's independence, there was no organisation that awarded decorations. The founders of our association thought that people who performed an act of courage, self-sacrifice or charity could be honoured. This is how "The Order of the Belgian Cross" was founded. Supporting members receive the decorations of "Crowned Belgium". Meritorious members may qualify for "The Palms of Humanity".
At a later stage, the official Belgian orders such as the Order of Leopold I, Leopold II and the Order of the Crown were established by the Belgian State.
